DTN Closing Grain Comments 10/12 13:48
Corn Stabilizes Following Friday Meltdown, Soybeans Lower To Begin Week
The row crop trade was very quiet to begin the new week, with a significant
drop in volume following Friday's USDA reports and with the Federal holiday
meaning no reports to begin the week and likely some traders taking an extended
weekend. Corn futures managed to stabilize at least temporarily but remain in
an uncomfortable position as the fundamental outlook on paper has suddenly and
significantly become less bullish over the past two weeks. Meanwhile, harvest
continues to advance across the U.S., though rainfall is again in the forecast,
which could again slow the pace. Wheat futures were pressured Monday by a
Sunday social media post from President Trump claiming that an energy ceasefire
had been reached in the Black Sea. However, this has already been called into
doubt with Ukraine's President Zelensky posting that Ukraine sees no meaningful
de-escalation on the horizon. Crude oil futures were higher for a third
straight session on Monday due to higher diesel, as well as the latest peace
talks between the U.S. and Iran having no clear breakthrough.
