Wheat...West coast cash wheat prices found some footing in early-week
trade, following the sideways move across the futures complex over the past
four sessions. Nearby basis levels have also strengthened, with soft white
basis up a dime from a week ago, hard red winter up 15 cents and the dark
northern spring market up 25 cents.
Shipments...The exporter shift towards moving row crop harvest was very
apparent last week, as shipments of wheat off all ports registered only 2.7
million bushels. Year-to-date wheat loadings of 276 million bushels stand
36% behind a year ago. By comparison, weekly export inspections showed 90
million bushels of U.S. soybeans shipped, with 35 million of that moving
off the west coast. Marketing year-to-date soybean loadings of 447 million
bushels are running 55% ahead of a year ago.
Crop Progress...The first official assessment of the 2027 winter wheat
crop shows Idaho reporting 76% good to excellent compared to 55% a year
ago, Oregon at 46% versus 53%, and Washington at 25% compared to 50% at
this time last year.
